Grosse Pointe Township was a civil township
of Wayne County

. Originally including all of the Grosse Pointe
communities, and the northeastern portion of the City of Detroit, in its later years, it is was reduced to the portion of the village of Grosse Pointe Shores
that was in Wayne County. On February 24, 2009, the residents of Grosse Pointe Shores voted to incorporate as a city ending the existence of the township.

living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.0% were non-families. 16.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the township the population was spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 16.8% from 25 to 44, 30.9% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.0 males.
