Here we can find people of all religions & casts. The people are from different sections of societies including Gouda Saraswat Brahmins, Bunts, Billavas, Veerashaivas , muslims & christians. Three languages are used here by people for the daily conversation. That is Konkani, Kannada & Thulu.

History

As per the reference of local temple, its came to know that, the ancient city of Gurupura was known as Gulipura. Since this town was situated on the banks of river, It was a commercial place which used to connect to other part of the river. Even now, we could find a place called 'Bandasaale'. This means, the place where goods are collected from many sources & distributed to other places.

On the other part of Gurupura, we could find a place called 'Bangla gudde'. Here in this place, Tippu Sultan had built a dam kind of structure where water is stored for the usage of cattle.

Today the place of Gurupura is known by most of the people across India. There are temples in the town of Varadraja Venkatraman Temple and Shri Satyadevta Dharmadevta Devasthan. The devastan of Shri Satyadevta is well known in and around Gurupura. People from across the globe visit Shri Satyadevta Temple at least once in their lifetime and some visit regularly.

The festival here takes place almost throughout the year, but the main festival of this town usually takes place in APRIL (or) May of the Indian calendar known as "GURPUR TERU" followed by "OOKUL" after "ODU TERU".
