Prior to Idol, Mutton worked with kids as a teacher, at Hillcrest Christian College. He left his career in education when his band Soulframe began gaining popularity. With experience on drums and piano, Mutton was reluctant to audition as a vocalist. However, since Mutton took over lead vocals Soulframe has won several Australian music awards. Songs from their 2005 album, "Escaping Entropy" collected a win and three further nominations in categories at the 2004 Annual MusicOz Awards, two of the top 10 spots in their category for the 2005 Australian Songwriters Association Awards, and a win in their category for the NZ-based 2005 Pacific Songwriting Competition.

Mutton was the fourth performer voted out of the Australian Idol Top 12 on 2 October.

Guy Mutton also participated in the World Idol games. He was achnowleged during this competition, due to his many shirtless appearances, as the hairiest idol contestant ever.

Post-Idol

Since leaving Australian Idol, Mutto has returned to lead vocals for Soulframe.

 "The List with Age & Renee" top 30 radio show. Mutton filled in for the week of the 6th to the 10th November in the absence of "Age", one of the regular hosts. He is currently employed at Hillcrest College on the Gold Coast.

On 26 March 2010, Mutto released his first official single as a solo artist. The single "Wish" was released by Cowbell Digital Music worldwide.

Additionally, Mutto is the first artist in Australia to fully embrace the digital age by offering EP Download Cards instead of CD Singles due to the fact that CD Singles are no longer stocked in retail stores.
