In 1933 parts of the northwest quarter of Hammel were designated part of the Chequamegon National Forest
of 2000, there were 735 people, 265 households, and 219 families residing in the town. The population density
was 20.7 people per square mile (8.0/km²). There were 346 housing units at an average density of 9.8 per square mile (3.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.78% White, 0.14% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.68% Asian, and 0.14% from two or more races.
There were 265 households out of which 38.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.8% were married couples
living together, 3.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.0% were non-families. 14.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the town the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 108.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,250, and the median income for a family was $53,281. Males had a median income of $30,089 versus $26,319 for females. The per capita income
