Handforth railway station serves the village of Handforth

Since electrification of the line in 1960 it has been mainly served by electric multiple units (EMU).
During Monday to Saturday daytimes Handforth is served by two EMU
services per hour in each direction, one of which runs between Alderley Edge
and Manchester
and the other running between Crewe
and Manchester
. This becomes an hourly service in the evening from Crewe
to Manchester
.
On Sundays there is an hourly service to both Manchester and Alderley Edge, with every second service to the latter continuing to Crewe.
Early 2009 saw the siting of large concrete blocks to deter parking on the terminal front due to structural concerns regarding the bridge.
The group works towards securing easier platform access for disabled passengers and those with prams, bikes etc.

Services
The station opened on 10 May 1842. The northbound ("down") platform was previously situated approximately 75m north of its current location. Since its inception the station has served a stop on the commuter route between Manchester and Wilmslow/Crewe.Since electrification of the line in 1960 it has been mainly served by electric multiple units (EMU).

Friends of Handforth Station
The Friends of Handforth Station, formed in 1996, are an active station adoption group who have carried out a number of projects at the station, including a station garden, sculptures, poetry and signs from railway operators in other countries.The group works towards securing easier platform access for disabled passengers and those with prams, bikes etc.
