Hangzhou Normal University(杭州师范大学)is a public university in China, located in the capital of Zhejiang province, Hangzhou
. It has four campuses--Xiasha(下沙), Man all the way(文一), Jade Hill(玉皇山), Gudang Bay(古荡湾). It is a comprehensive university famous for its teacher education and art education.
Province applied for the court to found a teaching school, aimed at training teachers for high schools and primary schools in the whole province. In 1908, the school was opened, named official secondary normal school(官立两级师范学堂). It was located in the original address of Zhejiang Gongyuan(贡院), with an area of 140 mu. ShenJunru was appointed as supervisor of the school in 1909.
In 1912, the Education Department of the Republic of China turned xuetang into school. It issued its own publications such as "baiyang"(白阳), "Zhejiang trendy"(浙江新潮), and set up clubs such as Music Rock Club(乐石社), Lakeside Poetry Club(湖畔诗社) and Mingyuan Club(明远学社). JingHengyi(经亨颐) was the president at that time. Under the leadership of JingHengyi, some art teachers, for example Li Shutong
(李叔同) and JiangDanshu(姜丹书), left invaluable treasure and contributed a lot to the following cause of art education.
When the anti-Japanese War broke in 1937, the school transferred to Jiande
(建德) and Lishui
(丽水), and moved back to Hangzhou when the war ended.
During the Great Cultural Revolution, the school changed from Hangzhou Normal University to Secondary section of Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou thirtheenth high school, and again Hangzhou Normal University. In 1978, the State Concil approved to found Hangzhou Normal College(杭州师范学院) and until March 2007 it was changed to Hangzhou Normal University.
