. The station is due to open as part of the first phase of the line's reinstatement to passenger services in 2010, and will serve the planned Strategic Development Zone for the area, which will see up to 3,000 new houses built.

The railway line was opened in September 2010 as planned, but Hansfield remained closed owing to road access not being completed.
