She joined the investment bank JP Morgan Chase in 1986, becoming MD and Head of Currency Management at their London office in 1998. She left the bank in 2008, after over twenty years with the bank. She has been the vice chair of Social Investment Business since 2008.

Following the retirement of Michael Spicer at the 2010 general election, she was selected to contest the safe Conservative seat of Worcestershire West. She has been a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee since 2010.

She was a member of the A-List and was selected for her seat in 2006.

She is married to Jim Baldwin and they have three children.

On 18 November 2011, Baldwin called for unemployed families to receive tax credits for no more than four children, claiming that incentives for young girls leaving education to find work are not strong enough and that they could be attracted to having children by the level of benefits currently on offer.
