Ford started his career playing for South Eastern League side Tunbridge Wells Rangers F.C. but in April 1912 played his first game for Chelsea,he was then transferred for £50 plus £50 if he played ten first team matches.He was a member of the Chelsea side that reached the FA Cup in 1915
