Hastings 2000 was a major re-enactment
of the Battle of Hastings
which took place on the 14 and 15 October 2000.
It was staged on the site of the original battle near the town of Battle, East Sussex
.
Unlike the previous major re-enactments of the battle in 1984, 1990, and 1995 a large number of overseas re-enactors attended and this brought the number of costumed participants up to about 1500 from 16 different countries.
The next major re-enactment of the event, Hastings 2006
, took place on the 14 and 15 October 2006. Before the official dates were announced, speculation led to many re-enactors using the acronym TNBO ("The Next Big One").
