The school, along with Walker Dam Infant School, was founded in 1966. The two were amalgamated on the Hazlehead School site in 1998. It was rebuilt in 2010 on what used to be the old playing field and then once it was completed the old school was knocked down to allow a smooth transition
Its catchment area covers Hazlehead, Craigiebuckler and Woodend. The headteacher is Mrs Barbra Jones who is in charge of children from Nursery up to Primary 7.
