Heide Orth is a German tennis player.
She grew up in Essen
in the industrial Ruhr
valley and began playing tennis with her father at the age of 13. She became the West German junior champion in 1960 and competed on the women's circuit for many years. She played in the national Fed Cup
team 15 times. She reached the quarter-finals in doubles at both Wimbledon
and the French Open. In singles she had outstanding wins on the women´s tour against the reigning Wimbledon Champions Virginia Wade
and Evonne Goolagong
.
She married in 1965 and gave birth to her son in 1970. At that time, she took a five-year break from tennis before entering the senior circuit, where she has won 9 Singles and 8 Doubles ITF World Championships as well as numerous European and German Championships. At tournaments in the USA she earned 43 Gold Balls for winning titles at US-Championships on clay and grass. She won 12 Tennis Europe Player of the Year Awards and she is one of only four tennis players who received the European Senior Lifetime Champion Award.
