The Hermosa Beach School District is responsible for public education in the city of Hermosa Beach, California
. It oversees two elementary schools and one middle school. The school district is supported by the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation whose mission is creating awareness, commitment and financial support for continued educational development of the students and teachers of the Hermosa Beach City School District, thereby ensuring competence, competitiveness and creativity through community, corporate and private sector involvement.
Incorporated in 1992, the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation is operated entirely by volunteers, our focus is to meet the school district's educational needs by funding instructional programs in science, technology, foreign language and the arts. The HBEF enhances our schools by restoring programs cut by the state. 80% of the money raised is immediately available for essential school programs and materials. 20% is retained in a permanent endowment fund that generates income to ensure the future of these programs.
In 2005, Hermosa Valley and Hermosa View schools were honored as the U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon Schools along with approximately 300 schools across the nation. The award was based on academic achievement. Both schools were honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools along with 33 California schools and less than 300 schools across the nation.
