The "High Range" itself, is a 817m hill, about 2 km to the NE.

High Range is about 600m above sea level and receives about 600 mm of rain per year. As the crow flies, it is 100 km south west of Sydney and 70 km south from Katoomba. It is a rural area with a number of vineyards.
