The Highway is a new country
radio station to the Sirius Satellite Radio
network. It is available on channel 59 (previously 16) on XM
, channel 59 (previously 60) on Sirius
(replacing New Country
on November 12, 2008
) and channel 6059 on Dish Network
. Until February 9, 2010, it was on channel 814 on Direct TV until the Sirius XM programming was dropped, in favor of going to SonicTap.
Originally known as Highway 16, the channel was renamed The Highway as part of the Sirius/XM channel merger on November 12, 2008. It is the only Sirius XM Radio channel that replaced the end's channel number with the beginning's "The," during the merger. Channels such as Area and Spa dropped their channel numbers during the channel merger (even though they're still on their current Sirius channel positions). One exception is Shade 45
, which is the only Sirius XM channel to retain its channel number, although that is its Sirius channel number and also broadcasts on XM channel 66.
The Highway broadcasts from the Bridgestone Arena, instead of XM's Washington, DC studios.
