She succeeded her father as ruler of Koolau after his death. On the deeds and exploits of Hinakaimauliawa personally the legends are silent. But she probably ruled with a steady hand and Koolau must have prospered under her rule or her name would have been erased from history, like it is in the case of many other chiefs. Hinakaimauliawa married the High Chief Kahiwakaapu, who may have been of a rank corresponding to her own but there exist no allusion to his pedigree in the legends or genealogies now extant. The first-born, and perhaps their only issue, was the High Chiefess Mualani (Muolani). She and her father were at the head of Koolau line of chiefs. And from Hinakaimauliawa, through her daughter Mualani, descends Kaulaulaokalani
