The Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network, Inc. was established in 1983 as a private, non-profit organization to create a network of non-commercial telecommunications facilities to advance the educational, social, cultural, and economic circumstances of Hispanics.
HITN-TV, established in 1987, is a branch of HITN and provides non-commercial Spanish-language educational programming in the United States
. Currently, it is carried on Dish Network, DirecTV, Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner. It offers educational, enriching, and empowering content to the fastest growing ethnic group in the US
. Their primary source of funding is via a business deal with Clearwire, which leases Educational Broadband Spectrum from HITN. Some programs are broadcast in English.
