History of Hindu Mathematics: A source book is a two volume set work on the history of mathematics in Pre-British India. The first vol. deals with the history of the numeral notations and of arithmetic. The second vol. is devoted to algebra, a science in which the ancient Hindus made remarkable progress. The first and second part were Published in Lahore in 1935 and 1938 respectively. The source book was written by Avadhesh Narayan Singh(1901-1954) and Bibhutibhusan Datta(1888-1958); both of them being students of the Indian mathematician Ganesh Prasad
. Both of them were important figures in history of mathematics but their basic doctoral research was in pure and applied mathematics respectively.
. He has corrected many misinterpretations of George Rusby Kaye and published about four dozen papers on history of mathematics in his lifetime. Datta retired voluntarily in 1929 and became a monk in 1938 under the name swami Vidyaranya.
