Holgate is a semi-rural suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales
, Australia
, located northeast of Gosford
. It is part of the City of Gosford local government area
.
It contains a primary school, a number of wineries, a pub, a public swimming pool, a museum, a graveyard, Barclay's House, Katandra Nature Reserve and the Matcham Valley Pony Club. Not to mention a lot of other features well known to locals and usually referred to as "the secrets of Holgate".
Holgate has been the foundation of many suburb runners due to the fact they can train at Katandra Reserve. Some of the locals have even said that they think Katandra Reserve could be the next "big thing". Not quite sure what this means to outsiders but it can take many away. Some people are not even sure if Katandra Reserve is real or if it is just a local folklore, either way it has been said that drinking from the pond at Katandra Reserve can cause adhesive effects. Some of these effects include dramatic improvements in running times and even growth of hair around the body. Some say that the Katandra Goddess roams the Reserve, setting a hard tempo and making sure the serenity stays in form. It has been said that Cale Bowd is the Katandra Goddess but there has been no real evidence to back up this suggestion.
Katandra Reserve has even made itself a facebook profile now, not without controversy though as some outsiders suggest Katandra Reserve is not in fact "human". This has even raised the debate about what humans are classified as. No one is quite to sure who Katandra Reserve is, a solid understanding may be that it could be Cale Bowd 'The Katandra Goddess" impersonating his favourite reserve to bring relief and comfort to those around him.
Either way the locals of Holgate are proud to call Katandra Reserve their own.
