The label began in January 2006 when they moved to London from Birmingham and put out their first release in June 2006, the Phoenix Bodies album 'Raise the Bullshit flag'. Happy Holy Roar!

For Christmas 2007 Holy Roar Records released a limited edition cassette tape compilation featuring 20 previously unreleased or self-released only songs by bands on a variety of bands including some Holy Roar artists. The compilation was limited to 100 copies and sold out in just over a week.

For Christmas 2009 "Happy Holy Roar III" was released and had completely sold out within a day. There were 100 tapes pressed with 10 colours to choose from.
