"Holy Tears" is a single by American post-metal
band Isis
. It was released in 2008 by Ipecac Recordings
on CD and vinyl format, the latter limited to 2000 copies. It is their first ever single, taken from their 2006 album In the Absence of Truth
. Instead of being released for commercial success, it was created in celebration of Isis' tenth anniversary along with "Not in Rivers, but in Drops
". Its original release on February 5, 2008 had to be recalled due to the title track being inadvertently replaced by "Wrists of Kings", also on In the Absence of Truth.
The enhanced CD
contains a video, directed by Dominic Hailstone. It depicts a man, played by Douglas Pledger, leaping from a building in a suicide bid, and as he hits the floor, imagery depicting an embryo and his subsequent death.
