Serving an area of social and economic disadvantage, in 2008 Hollywells High School got its best ever results at 31% 5+ A-C, including English and Maths, and achieved 27% in the same measure in August 2009.

There is some criticism of the move to academy status and the learning methods supported by Kunskapsskolan from students at the school.
