Horst Posdorf earned a degree in mathematics in 1974. He worked as a probationary teacher in 1974 and 1975, as a teaching inspector in 1975, and as an academic employee at the computer center of Ruhr University Bochum from 1976 to 1978. He was senior teacher from 1978 to 1980 and has been a Professor of Mathematics at Dortmund Vocational College since 1981.
Horst Posdorf was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia
Land Assembly from 1985 to 2000. He has been a member of the Executive of the European Pensioners Union since 2003 and a member of the SES Germany pensioners export service since 2005. In 1994 he received a Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon
and in 2002 he received a Federal Order of Merit, First Class.
Posdorf is one of six Members of the European Parliament participating in the European Union's observer mission in Togo
