House of Putbus
Encyclopedia
Pedebuz or Podebusk or Putbus was a highly noble, ultimately princely house in Pomerania and Rugen.

It claimed descent from some sideline of high-medieval indigenous sovereign princes of Rugen. It held an own lordship in some parts of Rugen, actually until the communist takeover after WWII.

In early modern epoch, lords of Pedebuz became recognized as barons.

In 18th century, they were created counts of Holy Roman Empire and in Sweden.

In 19th century, they were created Princes (Fürst).

When the original male line went extinct, the lordship and several of the titles were inherited by progeny of daughters.

Communists of DDR confiscated the lordship and destroyed the castle.
The today claimant is Malte de Putbus.
