Hovik Abrahamyan was born on 24 January 1958 in Mkhchyan village, Ararat Marz of Armenia

. He is married and has three children and five grandchildren.

Abrahamyan graduated from the Armenian State University of Economics and hold different managerial positions in brandy business till 1995.

In Parliament

Mr Abrahamyan served as a Member of Parliament for the first convocation of Armenian Parliament from 1995 to 1999. He was again elected to serve as an MP on August 24, 2008 and as the Speaker of Parliament on September 29, 2008.

In the Government

In the years 2000 to 2008 Hovik Abrahamyan hold the position of Minister of Territorial Addministration of Armenia. He also hold the position of Armenian Vice Prime Minister in the years 2007-2008. Briefly he served as the Secretary General of Armenian Presidential Staff.
