He was born in Sanahin, Armenia
, in an aristocratic family. He finished the Nersisian School in Tiflis, in 1889 he went to Western Armenia
, where co-operated with the fedayee groups and Arabo
. In 1897 he participated at Khanasor Battle, then was arrested and sent to Vologda
(Russia
). He became one of the organizers of Armenian self-defencion during the Armenian-Tatar massacres 1905-1907. He was one of the leading Armenian volunteer commanders during the World War I
. An ARF Dashnaktsutiun activist, in 1919 he became a member of Armenian parliament, then became the Ambassador of Democratic Republic of Armenia
