Early career
After leaving home in 1984, Bentham decided to study Geography and Sociology at Birmingham University. Howard is a member of the university old boys' cricket team, The Bunnies C.C. He is a very talented left arm off spin bowler. He also played Hockey in goal for Bournville but made his name as 'Doctor A' in goal for Edgbaston Hockey Club for his ability to clear up any problems the defenders may have. Additionally, Bentham is an authority on the common earthworm, their anatomy, physiology and social networking habits.Broadcasting career

At the time he was still teaching, but he was then able to fit in what he could at Stratford's The Bear 102.
In January 2001, Bentham took over The Bear 102's Breakfast show. It was during his first week as Breakfast presenter, that his wife gave birth to their first child.
