The team's nickname is the "Express" which is derivative of the nickname of a former public school in the city was closed to form Huntington High, which was the "Pony Express", and of the city's railroad heritage. School colors are Carolina blue and yellow.

None of the players actually live in the city, all are recruited. Because of this, the school is excluded from participation in the WVSSAC, which is the state's high school sanctioning body.
