Hurffville Elementary School is one of the oldest schools in the Washington Township Public School District

. Built in 1957, Hurffville was designed as an open-air environment school, meaning all of the classrooms are connected by sidewalks instead of hallways. The school originally housed kindergarten through 6th grades, but as population increased, it was reduced to 2nd throug 6th and then 2nd through 5th grades. The individual buildings were color-coded green, yellow, blue, tan and brown for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. In 1988, the school had hallways installed.
The school received New Jersey's "Governor's School of Excellence" award in 2005. At a school field day in June 2008, students they made the Olympic rings using the color of their field day shirts.
Hurffville is located in the Hurffville district of Washington Township. It borders the development of Wedgewood Farms
and is on Hurffville-Grenloch Road and Hurffville-Cross Keys Road, near Chestnut Ridge Middle School
