A contestant entry in the Robot Wars
TV series, Hypno-Disc was one of the first robots to use the kinetic flywheel
weapon — a highly damaging weapon that succeeded in heavily damaging and destroying a great many robots. Hypno-Disc's design, however, was somewhat basic, and its high ground clearance made it an easy target for robots armed with flipping weapons, such as Chaos 2
. Hypno-Disc was the creation of the Rose family — twin brothers Derek and David, and their father Ken. It was the first competitor robot recreated in toy form when the Robot Wars pullback toys were released.
Hypno-Disc vs. Beserk II was Hypno-Disc's first real test; they could not damage Beserk II's armour, but Berserk II's hammer could not damage theirs either. Hypno-Disc spent much of the battle trying to avoid the lifter at the back of Berserk II, but Berserk II was flipped over by the arena floor spike and Hypno-Disc won on a judges' decision to qualify for the series semi-final.
In the semi-final, Evil Weevil tried to avoid the disc and flip Hypno-Disc with its forks, but were badly damaged before they could use them effectively and lost the battle. Vs. 101, Hypno-Disc's disc had little effect. This left 101 free to use its spike, but the judges awarded victory to Hypno-Disc after going into the arena to examine the damage.
In the first round of the grand final, Steg-O-Saw-Us — a robot pulled from the reserves to compete in the first round which had subsequently won five battles to reach the series final - was unable to survive a string of attacks from Hypno-Disc. Dave Rose, Hypno-Disc's team captain, regards this as the most difficult fight of the series.
Hypno-Disc had control problems in the fight vs. Chaos 2
. Chaos 2 used this to their advantage; Hypno-Disc had to stop to restart the disc, which left Chaos 2 free to flip them over.
V-max deflected Hypno-Disc's first attack, but the second tore off its side panel. The next attack tore its other side panel and ruptured its CO2 supply, leaving it weaponless. V-Max wedged under Hypno-Disc and slammed it against the wall, but no damage was sustained, and Hypno-Disc attacked the exposed batteries, managing to shake one loose. V-max was not moving, so the house robots attacked.
Raizer Blade had been badly damaged in its first two fights, and did not last long in this one. The side panel came off, and it was all over.
At first, Splinter seemed to give Hypno-Disc some trouble, pushing it around the arena. However, this quickly changed as Hypno-Disc tore Splinter's scoop off, before ripping off their weapons and tearing the armour to pieces.
Right at the start of the second semi-final fight, Wild Thing raised its arm and could not lower it again. Hypno-Disc caused serious damage to the wedge and wheels, giving Hypno-Disc victory via a Judges' Decision, despite Wild Thing shoving them around in the later stages of the battle.
Pussycat slammed into the side of Hypno-Disc straight away and damaged one of its wheels, preventing it from moving properly. Shunt then axed the flywheel of the wounded Hypno-Disc, causing more damage. Hypno-Disc was soon pitted by Sir Killalot. They were too badly damaged to fight Stinger in the 3rd Place Playoff so they had to settle for 4th.
.
Atomic 2 got an early flip on Hypno-Disc but after they self-righted Atomic 2 was destroyed. Atomic 2's carbon fibre was ripped to pieces and their flipper was also torn off by Hypno-Disc's flywheel. Atomic 2 was eventually pitted.
Bulldog Breed 3 got a good early flip in, almost toppling Hypno-Disc, but Hypno-Disc then dominated the fight, pulling out the safety link. Bulldog Breed 3 was then pitted.
Firestorm 3 wasn't properly fixed after previous fights. One hit from the flywheel was all it took to knock Firestorm immobile. Firestorm 3 was then put on the floor flipper and pitted by Sir Killalot.
Against Dominator 2, Hypno-Disc attacked the wheels a few times, immobilised one wheel, then backed away and left it to spin. Many thought this was the most boring fight in history.
Bigger Brother had strong plates at the back of their robot, so they reversed repeatedly onto Hypno-Disc's flywheel. It withstood the attacks, but sustained some damage to the sides and to its flipper, and looked to be losing. However, Hypno-Disc was slowed from the repeated assaults, and towards the end of the match, Bigger Brother found the opportunity to push Hypno-Disc into the pit-release and subsequently into the pit. This was considered a huge upset and resulted in an amount of booing from the audience. Due to the amount of damage sustained to Bigger Brother, the Hypno-Disc team upon their loss volunteered to help repair Bigger Brother before its Grand Final battle with Razer
.
In the 3rd Place Playoff against Firestorm 3, Firestorm's flipper wasn't working (Due to previous damage from Razer), so Firestorm went for a pushing match, pushing Hypno-Disc into Sir Killalot's CPZ a large number of times, then both fell down the pit at the same time. A rematch was called, but Hypno-Disc was in no shape to fight again and had to concede to 4th.
.
Hypno-Disc met Bulldog Breed again. Bulldog Breed almost flipped Hypno-Disc but they fought back, immobilising them on one side and leaving them to the mercy of Dead Metal.
Hypno-Disc did what it did in Round 1 vs. Barberous 2, and buckled the wheel, immobilising Barberous 2.
Every time Hypno-Disc charged at Tornado
's scoop, it just got deflected off and slammed about. Hypno-Disc clung on, but the Judges had an easy decision in favour of Tornado.
In the Loser's Melee (Vs. Bigger Brother vs. Spawn Again), Hypno-Disc attacked both robots. But every time they slammed into someone, they bounced off and hit the wall. Hypno-Disc eventually knocked itself out, and Bigger Brother pushed Spawn Again down the pit.
In the All Stars event (Vs. Spawn Again vs. Dominator 2), everyone ganged up on and immobilised Hypno-Disc.

Series 3
Hypno-Disc's first battle was against Robogeddon. Robogeddon's thin steel armour could not stand up to Hypno-disc's weapon. Robogeddon was left stripped of its armour, with its frame bent and its CO2 canister blown. Its next battle was against Stealth; Hypno-Disc first knocked Stealth's circular saw off, then destroyed both the back and the front of Stealth.Hypno-Disc vs. Beserk II was Hypno-Disc's first real test; they could not damage Beserk II's armour, but Berserk II's hammer could not damage theirs either. Vs. Raizer Blade vs. The Predator: Hypno-Disc buckled the Predator's back panel and then attacked Raizer Blade. It hit Predator again, whose rear was now exposed. Raizer blade tried to flip Hypno-Disc but couldn't. Hypno-Disc attacked Raizer Blade again, weakening its drive system. Hypno-Disc's next hit took out Predator's rear wheel and battery. Mayhem vs. Wheely Big Cheese vs. Ming 3
Hypno-Disc attacked Ming 3 right from the start, buckling the wheel and then made a huge crevasse in the flipper of Wheely Big Cheese. Hypno-Disc ripped off one of Ming 3's wheels, knocked off the other wheel and nearly knocked one of Wheely Big Cheese's wheels off, almost chopping it in half. Shunt then pitted Wheely Big Cheese after a lot of attacks by Dead Metal, and Dead Metal then put Ming 3 in the pit. Hypno-Disc had therefor qualified for the annihilator later on in the series.United Kingdom vs. Germany Battle

Hypno-Disc then had relentless attacks to Granny's Revenge 2, and eventually immobilised it, and Sgt. Bash set hit on fire. Hypno-Disc then buckled the wheel of Barberous 2 and immobilised that as well. Granny's Revenge was then put under the dropzone, and was crushed by a cookerStove
