Encyclopedia
The IAJGS is the acronym for the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, an independent non-profit umbrella organization coordinating the activities and annual conference of more than 75 international, national and local Jewish genealogical societies around the world.

The IAJGS was formed in the late 1980s to provide a common voice for issues of significance to its members and to advance the pursuit of genealogy. They coordinate an annual conference on Jewish Genealogy, which takes place n a different city each year. In 2010, the conference was held in Los Angeles, hosted by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles (JGSLA).

In 2011, the 31st IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will be held in Washington, D.C. hosted by the Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington (JGSGW). The conference will be held at the Grand Hyatt Washington from August 14–19, 2011. For more information about the Washington conference, go to http://www.DC2011.com/.

Virtually all of the local, national and international Jewish Genealogical Societies (JGS's), and a number of Jewish Genealogical Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are members.
