For the first time Dave Thompson was not a member of the jugding panel. The remaining three judges all returned and where supported by a guest judge in every casting city: Zolani (member of FleshlyGround) in Capte Town, Kahn Morebee (The Parlotones) in Joburg, Steve Hofmeyr in Durban, mammoth personality HHP in Port Elizabeth and Loyiso in Bloemfontein

The fourteen semi-finalists where split in two groups of seven and performed live at Mosaïek Teatro on August 22, 2010, and August 27, 2010 respectively. After the bottom two from each votes got eliminated the remaining finalists where merged together for the round of the top 10.
Top 10 contestant Jamie-Lee Sexton had already been a finalist on Idols III
under the name Jamie-Lee Blokdyk where she placed 12th. She is therefore the first Idol contestant worldwide that made the finals on two different seasons. This was the second season where both the top 2 contestants were never in the bottom,the first season being season 5.This was also the second season after season 1 where both top 2 contestants were males.
