on 10 November by Warner Bros. Records
. The album was recorded in Los Angeles
with producer Nick Launay
. It is the first and only album by The Cribs to feature second guitarist Johnny Marr
, formerly of The Smiths
and Modest Mouse
; Marr left the band in 2011 to return to solo work.
Launay said the sessions began with a week long rehearsal period where the band's songs were "played over and over again so that all the arrangements, tempos, etc. could be worked out first." The album was then able to be recorded effectively as a live performance, with all four members playing together in one room at the same time, and in doing so capture the raw and direct feeling they wanted. Nevertheless, the album is not fully live as a few overdubs and replacements were made later. The main body of the recording was completed in three weeks, with another week spent on overdubs and then mixing.
