The Impetuoso class were the first post war destroyer
s built for the Italian Navy
. The hull design was based on the uncompleted Comandante class destroyers but American equipment (guns, radar, machinery) was used. A scheme to install guided missiles during a modernisation programme was proposed but not carried out. The two ships were ordered in 1952,entered service in 1957 and were retired in the early 1980s.
