Imran Aslam graduated from Government College Lahore, later studying at the London School of Economics
(LSE) and School of Oriental & African Studies where he read Economics, Politics, and International Relations.
Before he turned to journalism, he worked for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, of the UAE
. He began his journalistic career as the editor of The Star
in the 1980s. In the 1990s he was editor of The News, a Karachi English daily. He is currently the president of GEO Television
, a subsidiary of the Jang Group.
Aslam has written political satirical plays for television, and for the Gripps Theatre, with translations of Dario Fo
's plays for children, localised for Pakistani
audiences.
He left Pakistan after a brief incarceration in Baluchistan, during which he suffered a period of solitary confinement and torture; at the time he was working on a dissertation on the political evolution of Baluchistan.
He has three brothers and one sister. He lives in Karachi
with his wife (Farishtay Aslam) and their son.
