The Independence Rock Festival is a two day music festival held annually at Chitrakoot Grounds, Mumbai
. It usually takes place during the Indian Independence Day
and is organised by E18, A division of the Network 18
Media. It is the oldest and the biggest rock festival in India
, and was included in MTV Iggy's list of "Top 10 Music Festivals Around the World to Check Out in 2010!."
Independence Rock is often abbreviated as I-Rock, and is followed by the roman numerals of the count of the festival. The entrants for the finale I-Rock performances are decided on city-level competitions held in pubs. The city-level entrants are based on previously submitted CD/Tape demos. and The winners then contest on the Day 1 of the festival. The winning band normally gets prize money, music gear. Day 2 usually features shows by non-competing "pro" bands.
