ITDC came into existence in October 1966 and has been the prime mover in the progressive development, promotion and expansion of tourism in the country. Broadly, the main objectives of the Corporation are:
The Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi made the India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ITDC) as an Hospitality partner all three properties i.e Hotel Ashok, Samrat and Janpath –as the Games Family Hotels with Hotel Ashok being the flagship hotel. “The hotels offerd a combined inventory of 680 rooms/suites with Hotel Ashok offering 500 rooms, Samrat offering 60 rooms and Janpath offering 120 rooms.”
The flagship Family Hotel Ashoka hosted members of Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs), the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), International Sports Federations, Technical Delegates and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The hotels will be the nerve centre of the Games and bear facilitation offices of CGF and OC CWG Delhi 2010. All events and meetings of different constituent groups held at these Games family hotels. Hotel Samrat and Hotel Janpath provided the accommodation to the athletes’ families.

- To construct, take over and manage existing hotels and market hotels, Beach Resorts Travellers’ Lodges/Restaurants;
- To provide transport, entertainment, shopping and conventional services;
- To produce, distribute, tourist publicity material;
- To render consultancy-cum-managerial services in India and abroad;
- To carry on the business as Full-Fledged Money Changers (FFMC), restricted money changers etc; and
- To provide innovating, dependable and value for money solutions to the needs of tourism development and engineering industry including providing consultancy and project implementation.
