 the government is setting up during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Inaugurated on January 4, 2011, it is the eleventh Indian Institute of Management in the country, and it is mentored by IIM Bangalore. ,he classes for the first batch began on June 15 2011.

The former SEBI Chairman M. Damodaran heads the board of governors while IIM-C faculty Prafulla.Y.Agnihotri has been appointed director of IIM-Trichy.

Campus

The institute will temporarily function from National Institute of Technology campus until the permanent building is in place.NIT-T will provide buildings for classes, hostel and faculty accommodation.

The permanent campus for the institute will be on 200 acre (0.809372 km²) of land between Bharathidasan University

Academic Programs

IIM-Trichy offers two-year full-time Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP). Its main objective is to develop young men and women into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, proceeding leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society.

Remarks

• Though IIM-T was to be started in 2010 along with three other new IIMs in Rohtak, Ranchi and Raipur, it is the first among the four to get started with a full-time Director and 12 highly qualified and experienced full-time faculties chosen out of over 400 applicants from the country and abroad.

• Though the plan was to restrict the number of admissions to 60 for the first batch, the response was overwhelming and hence a total of 88 students including 73 boys and 15 girls whose average CAT score was 94.69 per cent and median score of 98.62 percentile, was impressive for a start-up, have been enrolled for the first batch of the Post-Graduate Programme (PGP) for the academic year 2011-2013.

• IIM-T had been one of the preferred B-School during the admission progress.

• The total course fee for two years sum up to Rs. 10 lakh and the students can pay their fees in six installments.While the older IIMs charge Rs. 13 - 16 lakh, the new IIM's charge around Rs. 5-7 lakh.

• Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM-T, assured the students that necessary steps would be initiated by the month of September for campus recruitment, joint training, joint coaching, knowledge exchange and sponsorship for few meritorious students to fly abroad to present papers and other academic purposes read a NEWS release.
