The 700+ acre, ~5-mile long horseshoe-shaped Lake is private in that use is limited to property owners plus a small number of local use permits offered for sale each year. Residents enjoy water skiing, tubing, PWCs (Jet-Skis), fishing - just about every imaginable water sport. Power boats are limited in length (22 feet for ski-type boats/runabouts; 30 feet for pontoon boats) but there is no horsepower limit. Boating rules are governed by a local boating ordinance (law) and enforced by local police and the PA Fish and Boat Commission. All watercraft require state and local registration.

Approximately half the homes at Indian Lake are year-round permanent residences and half are seasonal recreational/vacation homes. Rentals are available, and each year a number of lake-front and golf-course homes are available for sale; all property owners, not just lakefronts, may enjoy use of the Lake via docking at the Marina or an available public launch.

During the winter months the roads are very well cared-for, but there is plenty of snow and area for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Downhill skiers enjoy nearby Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain ski resorts.
