. The IFF aims to present both UK and international short interfaith movies, with the objective of 'promoting exploration, discussion and understanding' about faith through the medium of cinema. According to the organisers, the winning film needs to ‘aid understanding of faith’ whilst contributing to community cohesion

. IFF is not a religious organisation, and works to discuss 'all faiths and none', and the organisers seem to encourage filmmakers of any religious or nonreligious background. IFF is now working in association with The Coexist Foundation.

, U.K. in 2007 by a group of professionals in the film and media industry who wanted to make a serious contribution to community cohesion through film and moving image.

2011 Festival

 in November 2011. With the association with The Coexist Foundation, IFF has become an international festival, taking submissions from across the globe and streaming festival events live via the web.

Entries made to the festival are shortlisted by specialists at the University of Manchester
