.The Installer Institute is located inside the Metra facility, just a few feet from Metra's research and development department. Because of this, the school can stay up to date with the newest vehicle information, such as proper disassembly, and bypassing factory equipment

In March of 2003 the school underwent a complete renovation, including new tools, classroom and furniture. The school is on an upward swing with attendance, and because of the rapid growth will be moving into a new 10000 square feet (929 m²) facility in the beginning of 2004

Curriculum

The institute offers 5- or 10-week courses for basic installations. Week 1 is an introduction to formal installations, focusing on basic electrical knowledge. The Installation Knowledge Exam is taken before moving on to week 2, which introduces students to enclosure design and construction of subwoofers. The third week has students gain hands-on experience with electronics

, speakers and radios. Students are encouraged to install the electronics into their own cars. Week 4 introduces mobile security, remote starters, and GPS navigation systems, after which, the Security System Certification exam is given. During week 5, students learn about more complex installations in order to take the Audio System Certification exam.
The latter 5 weeks of courses include leather interior installation, advanced fabrication, interior panel design and construction, painting and metal work, and an introduction to home audio

. Classes are limited to 18 students and there is a 96% passing rate for the MECP exam.

In early 2010, Installer Institute came out with a 14-set video training series for do-it-yourself car stereo installers. The videos cover general and advanced installation of head units, amps and speakers; navigation, security and remote-start systems; enclosure design and construction; router techniques; fiberglass and plexi-glass techniques; welding; motorization; door panel and dash modifications; painting interior panels; and trunk customization. The entire set of 14 DVD's is $595, or $49 for individual DVD's.

Awards and Achievements

The Installer Institute has provided state-of-the-art, hands-on training for talented beginners or experienced installers who wish to improve themselves in the automotive aftermarket installation industry.

In 2009, Installer Institute created the Black Death Escalade,
which was nominated for Stereo of the Year by Aspec Magazine. The stereo included a eight 1500 watt amps for four 15" woofers.
In 2009, Installer Institute teamed up with VIBE UK to create three Italian Job themed Mini Coopers. All three of the Mini Coopers had three speakers in the front door (two 6" and a 5") and two 15" subwoofers in a wall behind the front seats and the required amplifiers in the trunk.
