in 1906 to support, represent and set standards for company directors

Members of the institute may use the post-nominal letters MIoD and Fellows may use the post nominal letters FIoD. A common mistake made is that the post-nominal letters used are MInstD for Members and FInstD for Fellows of the society, however this is not the case.

Membership grades
There are three primary grades of membership: Associate, Member and Fellow.Members of the institute may use the post-nominal letters MIoD and Fellows may use the post nominal letters FIoD. Certification
The IoD deliver an award, the Certificate in Company Direction and the Diploma in Company Direction, which covers key topics such as role of company director, financial responsibilities of directors and key topics under strategic business direction. These qualifications are suitable for directors across different sectors and background and can ultimately lead to Chartered Director status, uniquely offered through the IoD in London.Charter
