. The Institute has three Schools and 9 Departments.
The institute opened in 1970 as a Regional Technical College and adopted its present name on May 7, 1997. Professor Terri Scott has been Director of the Institute since October 2008 and Dr. Brendan McCormack is the current Registrar.

On the sporting field, the college has been very successful in ladies soccer and more notably the senior football team, who have won the Sigerson Cup
