Intelicloud
Encyclopedia
InteliCloud is a private Newport Beach, California-based developer and manufacturer of next-generation data center (NGDC) equipment founded in 2007.
The concept behind the product came when streaming video supplier VIRCAS asked InteliCloud for a system that would allow them to scale their growth of HD streaming video in response to demand as opposed to building a substantial network before customer adoption escalated to a viable business. InteliCloud, reimagined the platform requirements and created the first stable prototype in less than four days. The customer was satisfied and this initial success led to the decision to develop a standards-based product that would compete with proprietary solutions such as Cisco's
Unified Computing System.
In April 2009, the company closed Series A funding with Media One Direct, which the company said will go toward expanding its sales and marketing team. Jeffrey Friederichs is InteliCloud's President and Neeloy Bhattacharyya is Vice President of Engineering. Gil Amelio
, former CEO of National Semiconductor
and Apple Computer
, joined the company's advisory board in November 2009.
The platform is promoted as a next-generation data center solution for video and data service providers such as ISPs and telecommunications carriers, handling more customers using less power and space, and has been praised for its innovative chassis design, proactive approach to cooling and flexibility. Company officials said they expect the InteliCloud 360 to cost 60 percent less than conventional offerings while improving scalability, easing management and cutting cooling costs.
