(ADSL) technology was introduced in Bulgaria after the privatization of the state monopoly Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) in 2004. Since then, availability has greatly increased and as of February 2006 it is offered in 140 towns and villages around the country. With the liberalization of the telecommunications market, it is expected that other companies currently offering broadband Internet by other means will begin offering ADSL in the near future.
As of December 31, 2006 the service is available to customers in 208 towns and villages.
