The IMA maintains fund sectors, that is a system of classifying funds which helps investors and their advisers find and select suitable funds. Funds in IMA sectors are regularly monitored for compliance with sector definitions, and oversight of the system is led by an industry committee, the Sectors Committee.

The Board consists of senior members of the industry. A full list of Board members can be found on the IMA website. There are a range of committees of members covering specific subject areas.

History

The IMA as it is today was established in 2002 after a merger of the Association of Unit Trust and Investment Funds (AUTIF) and the Fund Managers Association. AUTIF, before 1993, was itself known as the Unit Trust Association and was established in 1959.
