Iran Liberation Army
Encyclopedia
The Iran Liberation Army was an organization founded in Paris shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution by General Dr. Bahram Aryana with a few civilian and military compatriots including Dr. Assad Homayoun. The purpose of the organization was liberation from despotic regressive rule of the clerics and establishment of a secular democratic government in Iran. With passing of General Aryana in exile in 1985, the torch dimmed and the activities of the group came to a standstill until its revival by Dr. Homayoun in Washington, D.C. The group is now known as Azadegan Foundation with the goal of achieving the noble hope and aspirations of the Iranian people. Azadegan has never discussed constitutional monarchy nor did its original founder General Aryana ever include in his manifest, "Aeine Azadegan," the words monarchy or constitutional monarchy. The aim of the group was not restoration of monarchy, but a national democracy to protect Iran against foreign aggression and internal subversion. Azadegan is neither against nor in favor of monarchy, because it strongly believes that after the fall of the current theocratic rule and liberation of Iran, the people will decide their future system of government in free elections.
