History

. There was a branch leaving here for and which closed in 1965. During the electrification of the Ayrshire Coast line, Irvine station was partially refurbished, resulting in a glass front canopy on the main building and external ramp access to both platforms.

Facilities

The station is manned on a part time basis and is one of the few stations still manned on the Ayrshire Coast line. There is a small kiosk shop, and an adjoining car park with parking room for a small number of cars.

Services

Mondays to Saturdays there is a half-hourly service northbound to Glasgow Central and southbound to with an hourly service in each direction on Sundays.
