. Irvington High School is the only high school in Irvington. The IHS interior has three main floors and a basement. Each floor aligns up to 23 classrooms each. A west wing of the building was erected in the 1980s, providing an extra ground of education for the growing crowd of over 2,000 enrolled students and faculty in hallway traffic.
As of the 2008-09 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,546 students and 121.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE
basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7.
The school was the 287th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 322 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly
magazine's September 2010 cover story on the state's "Top Public High Schools", after being ranked 307th in 2008 out of 316 schools. The school was bottom-ranked, 316th, in the magazine's September 2006 issue, which surveyed 316 schools across the state.
