Homma began his professional career with Albirex Niigata
in 2000. He made his professional debut on 5 May 2000 at the age of 19 in a J. League Division 2
match against Mito HollyHock
. Three days later, he scored his first professional goal in a 2–1 away victory over Shonan Bellmare
. Homma finished his rookie campaign with 31 total appearances and three goals.
From 2000 till 2004, throughout his early years he played mainly as a right-winger. In 2005 season, head coach Yasuharu Sorimachi moved him to defensive midfielder. He succeeded in retaining his place in the team, making 33 total appearances in the 2005 season. Following the season, he became a indispensable piece for the club.
At the start of the 2007 season season Homma was selected as the new captain of Albirex Niigata.
